About Kalari Gurukulam

Kalari Gurukulam is a training and research centre for the ancient martial art form of Kalaripayattu.This institution headed by Guru Ranjan Mullaratt is Dedicated to train, promote, encourage, and disseminate the art and science Kalaripayattu, it conducts training classes, conducts workshops, holds events and performances, and publishes study and research material about Kalaripayattu.

The institute is located in the outskirts of Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka, India. It features a traditional Kalari built with mud and other earthy elements as well as a modern studio for interested practitioners and trainees. The modern studio is located on the Brigade Road, just behind the St. Patrick’s Church. With facilities for residential training as well as day-to-day training for Kalari enthusiasts, Gurukulam promotes Kalaripayattu through public performances, awareness events, as well as publications. Gurukulam seeks to spread the knowledge of the art of Kalaripayattu across the country and the world.

Kalari Gurukulam conducts regular training classes and workshops, hold events and performances, and publishes study and research material about Kalaripayattu. It also provides Kalari and Marma treatments for orthopaedic and life style conditions. Kalari Gurukulam promotes and supports training schools in India as well as abroad.

ABOUT KALARIPAYATTU

The art is trained in an enclosure called ‘Kalari’, which is 21 feet by 42 feet. The entrance faces the east. In the south-west corner is a seven-tiered platform called the "poothara", which houses the guardian deity of the kalari. These seven steps sy mbolise seven abilities each person requires. They include Vigneswa (Strength), Channiga (patience), Vishnu (commanding power)
